Martín Ojeda joins Orlando City from Godoy Cruz - Joint most valuable player at MLS club

Orlando City have completed the transfer of Argentine winger Martín Ojeda from Godoy Cruz. The 24-year-old joins the club in a deal worth around €5 million, which makes him the second most expensive signing in club history behind Uruguayan star Facundo Torres. Ojeda, together with Torres, will be the most valuable player on the squad when he officially joins Orlando on Jan. 31. Ojeda has signed a Designated Player (DP) contract through 2025 with club options for 2026 and 2027. 

“Martín is a player that we have targeted for some time, and are thrilled to have him join us. He is one of the most promising South American players, with a profile and playing style that fits our Club identity,” Orlando City general manager Luiz Muzzi said in a club statement. “His versatility and tenacity in the attacking third make him a dangerous player in our offensive end, and he has an incredible work rate off the ball that make him difficult for opponents to deal with. Martín is a key acquisition for us, both this season and beyond, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him with us in Orlando.”

Ojeda joins Orlando City after an impressive season with Godoy Cruz. The winger managed 13 goals and 14 assists in 45 games across all competitions for the Argentine first-division side. Ojeda has been impressive ever since he joined Godoy Cruz initially on loan from Racing Club in 2020 when he had a market value of just €350,000, allowing the club to make the transfer permanent for just around €430,000.

Just one year after signing Ojeda to a permanent deal, Godoy Cruz have now cashed in on the player. But the transfer fee paid by Orlando City confirms a development that has seen Ojeda steadily improve his market value to €8 million, making him Godoy Cruz's most valuable player and one of the ten most valuable players playing in Argentina.
